Abstract Image and more....

So after a few hours in the studio yesterday playing with the lighting in there i didnt really get the shot that i wanted. But i did get something interesting that i hope i can persue in. I decided to photograph the chair in the studio at low lighting, seen as how this was the body of that object i thought it would fill in nicely with my work. So this is what i came up with:

After this i went into the animation studio and started shooting, just playing around with the 5D but some good images came out in the end. Here are the top two images of the day:

Final Major Project ~ Year 3

So last week i started university back, and straight off the bat got put to work. DEADLINES all ready.

So for the practical side of stuff i have one big final project i must do and exhibit, but the tutors thought it would be fun to give us a small brief before hand just to get the idea rolling. So i was given the title Photographing the body, very easy i hear you say but nothing is ever as straight forward as that. The easiest idea that comes to mind is not always the best idea.

So to start off i began to research some photographers that had done this, with the likes of some obvious ones coming up like the good old Edward Weston. of course. Now i do enjoy a bit of his work, his black and white images are always nice to look at visually and tonally. His work wasn't what caught my eye though, it was the likes of Mr John Coplans work that was interesting. His images just made the body seem so UN-natural, he took self portraits of him self in different posses trying to portray the body's shape and form, but in doing so he created a disturbing set of images. They were very symmetrical, and were well thought out and perfectly proportioned to the frame, so i thought to myself this could be very interesting. So i had this idea in mind to try and create these abstract images from the different shapes the body can get it self into, would any one be able to tell which body part this was? I also wanted to use low lighting to try and confuse the audience a little, by using dark shadows and low light, it would be very hard to tell which body part it was but you would still know it was the body by it texture and colour.

So i got to work at this and tried to use the studio's lights to create this idea i had in my mind.

This didn't go as well as i hoped. This was the only image that seemed to come out well out of the few test i did.

A day at Bute Park

Went for a stroll through Bute Park in Cardiff today with Dante Penman (silly name)
Took my 300mm lens for a test run and had some handy clus-up filters at hend. Here are some of what I came up with.

Above: A bird perched on a rock using the new 300mm lens. it a very nice lens for the mear £20 i paid. Never thought it would be this good.

Above: Here was the first real use ive had with the close-up filters, this one been a plus 10. It is a really nice piece of kit to have if you cant aford a proper macro lens, there just a few quid and they do the job just aswell, and sometimes you get some great effects.
